Spring Break at The Florida Times-Union

I spent my spring break this year doing a practicum at The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville, Fla. It was a good oppurtunity to learn from a veteran staff of newspaper photographers and I came out of the week with a few clips of my own.

Two people stroll in the shade of the north side of the Modis building in downtown Jacksonville, Fla. on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 2007. The top of the Modis building, the second-tallest building in Jacksonville, can be seen reflected in the angled windows of the building's own distinctive, flared base.

Fifth-graders from Andrew A. Robinson Elementary School watch as one of their fellow students, who is reflected in the window, prepares to participate in the First Annual Egg Drop contest at the University of North Florida on Thursday, March 15, 2007. The students worked together in teams to design protective cases for their eggs, which were then dropped onto a target from two stories up. Points were calculated based on whether the egg broke, where it fell on the target, and the weight of the protective contraption.

S. P. Livingston Elementary School fifth-graders watch as one of their classmates releases his egg from the second story of a building at the University of North Florida.

Jessica Stamps, 17, and Shawn Shults, 18, spend part of Wednesday afternoon at Riverfront Park off of River Road in San Marco. Both students, Stamps at Douglas Anderson and Shults at Wolfson, had a short day of classes with the schools letting out early.

Participants in the 30th annual Gate River Run in Jacksonville, Fla. pass by the last water stand before the finish line at the end of the 15k race.
